FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS:
(you'll learn
the answer to all these and other questions in the eBooks, but
here's a preview of what you'll learn)
What's the
best age for training my dog?
Usually, the minimum appropriate age for obedience training is once the dog is 10-12
weeks old.
Can you really train older dogs?
In our opinion, any dog that is healthy can benefit from
obedience training. However, just like humans, the physical and mental
abilities of dogs can diminish with age plus impacts the
effectiveness of the training. Additionally, the older a dog
gets, the more established the habits become. Consequently, it
takes longer to eliminate an old habit and instill a new one.
The oldest dog that we have ever heard of in obedience training
was an eleven year old Dachshund.
Can I use dog treats
for reinforcement?
Try all the methods to determine what works best for your dog. Our ebook offers several solutions in most cases. Each dog has their own personality. It could be food treats, toys, or just plain praising.
How long
should training sessions last?
It depends on the dogs age, limit yourself to two (2) or three (3) sessions per day with
each session being no longer than 10-15 minutes
in length to start. The younger the dog, the shorter the training session
should be. For the best results, start training your dog in an area that
has few distractions.
What equipment
do I need to train my dog?
To start a six (6) foot leash and collar that's fitted properly (you don't want your dog slipping the collar). We
don't recommend flexi or retractable leashes for basic
obedience training. Treats or toys,
and water. Make sure you have an extra dose of patience and a
calm but assertive attitude.
How do I introduce my new baby to my dog?
There are 3 types of dogs were parents should be really concerned: dogs that have already shown aggressive tendencies to babies, those that are, in general, also aggressive to adults, and those that have a history of predatory behavior.
What if my dog
is sick?
You probably don’t work well when you’re ill and neither does
your dog. Let your dog fully recover first. Then you can pick things up just where you left off.
Is it better
to train my dog when he’s hungry?
In our opinion, yes. Especially if you’re
using food treats as reinforcement. Use smaller treats because you'll use them often and if your dog gets full during obedience training they will become less effective.
What's the best dog food or diet?
